Blog Post- March 11: "Going Beyond the Still Image"-"Wrong Place, Wrong Time"

The strong lights in the background make a silhouette around the woman so that the audience is curious to find out what happens when the man gets there.

This resolution leaves a feeling of sadness and gloom because of the blue tint . The photo makes us sad because we witness a moment in the man's life that he cherished, and he wants to see it one last time before he dies.

Reverie and the DSLR Revolution

In this AMAZING short film the director (Vincent Laforet) is using a new high tech camera called the HDDSLR. It is the first still image camera that also does HD filming. During this film there is no dialogue although the expressions and movements from the actors tell the story by itself.

The focus in this picture is on the couple in front of the shore. You see the background is full of scenery that is unfocused and the blur makes the lights look pretty.

The dominant color in this shot is probably the blue sky. The framing is very tight since the character is unable to move around. The Form for this shot would be closed since you know who the man is and you know where he is.

Music Video Critique

The storyline of the project is a guy that has a messy lifestyle meets up with a girl who has a very neat and clean lifestyle. The thing that they have in common is that the two have the same taste in music. Some challenges dealing with pre-production were location, acting, and directing. Since the team had no transportation besides our own legs its was difficult to have a variety of locations. Directing was a little off since the video did not come out as well as planned. On the other hand acting, wardrobe, and props were fine. The only problem that was kind of challenging was lighting, since most of the video was filmed outside. the way we fixed that was that we changed the angle of the camera.

Drawing

I think next year, I'm going to take Art or Animation because I love drawing. I think I'm better at drawing manga/anime. I've been trying to draw two anime characters for a while, and I just found out how. This is what I'm going to draw off of:

I'm thinking of trying to draw his sword too:

And here is another character I want to draw:

Music Video- "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare"

I saw this home-made music video on youtube and it looked pretty good, except for the one part with the 180 degree rule when he was riding his bike.

Solitude trailer

The Movie Solitude is a film about a group of teens who go out for a last night together before going off to college. They go to a small town, but are surprised to find the town deserted. It's just them, and an unexpected visitor. During the film there is great use of lighting to show emotion not only in characters but also in scenery.

The first thing you see is the car going down a deserted highway in the middle of nowhere. In this shot the lighting is great, the use of background is amazing.

First my eyes went to the girl's face because of the rule-of-thirds. Lighting is very low key, and similar to the lighting in the first shot, and the shining duct tape makes my eyes go there next.

Movin' 99.7 FM: DJ Earworm - United State of Pop 2009 (Blame It on the Pop)

so, I listen to Movin' 99.7 FM and there is one song that keeps coming up that I have been trying to get the name of for... about 2 months, and today I finally found the name to it: United State of Pop 2009. It's a remix of all the best songs on 99.7, and it is about 4:45 min. long. but, its really good.

Avatar Behind the Scene- Blog Post

Behind the Scenes of Avatar

In addition to our 3D IMAX adventure of Avatar, I would like you to reflect on the film's production process as well as its economic, and socio- cultural impact on our culture. Please read and view all of the following links before responding in your own blog post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6JXUoWeZ7Q&feature=related

 1) Production: What challenges did James Cameron have in realizing his vision?

"Jim found a way of putting into a movie so many themes that are relevant to today's world."
The film wasn't really Science- Fiction. It's really an Action-Adventure-Fantasy

2) Creating the virtual world: What was the process used in creating Pandora?

The producers took the theme of Pandora after
"From Earth's Southern Hemisphere, you can see where Pandora is located:: Alpha Centauri, at a distance of 4.4 light years from Earth. The Alpha Centauri system is our nearest stellar neighbor.."

3) Performance Capture versus Motion Capture: How has Performance Capture changed the Film-making Process?

Now, because of Performance Capture, the animations look absolutely real. "I think the thing that people need to keep very strongly in mind is that this is not an animated film. These actors did not just stand at a lecturn and do a voice-part and then animators went off and created the entire physicality of their performance. ... Every

4) Avatar Earnings to Boost News Corp:

a) How much money was spent on marketing for the film?

b) What challenges does News Corp face in realizing profits?

c) In your opinion, does the massive budget spent on the film affect the authenticity of its message?

5) Socio-Cultural Impact-
- Avatar Challenges Us to Be All We can Be
- Avatar is Marred by Racist Subtext, 2 and 3
- Fail Blog- Avatar's Plot Fail

a) Do you agree with the critic's claim that Avatar "identifies the profound spiritual bankruptcy that underlies our financial insolvency...and reminds us (to)... make new choices for the greatest good of all". Or is this film just a trite recycling of previous plots that reinforces racist stereotypes? Explain with examples from the film.
